One of our TV chefs Hugh Fearnley- Whittingstall from the River Cottage series did a really interesting idea the other day which was homemade pot noodle and I thought there must be a good adaptation for instant HFI food.
They used egg or rice noodles, various recipes with tinned fish like crab meat or you could use salmon, tuna, mackerel, sardines obviously not in tomato sauce. Or they used spiced meats but I'm sure you could use safe cold cuts. Basically it has to need only soaking no cooking. They they made a flavoured sauce which I'm sure could be a concentrated meat stock then packed it into plastic lidded pots and when needed they poured boiling water on, soaked for 3 to 5 minutes stir and eat. Or you could use an empty jar.
They also do lots of meat casseroles with slow cook ideas so I have emailed them to ask if they can think up some recipes for us, he does lots of real old fashioned wholesome food. i'll pass them on

I am very interested. These sound like perfect lunch ideas. Right now I'm eating Stouffer's Mac & Cheese, pasta salad, and the occasional tuna & cheese sandwich. Anything to mix this up would be a blessing.

The website with the recipe is www.channel4.com/food/recipes/chefs/hugh-fearnley-whittingstall/He made lots of other recipes on the programme but i think you need to download the channel 4 player to watch it. It was played on 28th October. There are lots of recipes on there but the instant chorizo noodle gives you a guideline, His main website is www.rivercottage.net with various recipes too but I think most are added by the public. anyway will plough through his recipes and fish out some useful ones.

Hmm, tried an instant pot noodle supper for Megs, used egg noodles, and tinned mackeral and a bit of the oil from the tin and a knob of butter, She loved it, she wolfed a huge portion down.
All I can say is, if you want to go off your rocker then try it, She went doolally half an hour after eating. I think it may be quite a high glycemic index....... It was very funny, she was doing her homework when the reaction kicked in.... what started very sensibly very quickly became toilet humour again, even worse, my father is staying at the moment and trying to keep a straight face when she is being soooo rude infront of your father is quite difficult.

The noodle effect happened again today, I so wish I had the video ready, will next time I give them to her. It may happen worse if it is a long time since she has eaten before she has them but it was all i had that was quick as time was getting on tonight. She had wheat noodles with cream. 15 minutes later she was reading her storybook to me and was doing it really well practicing her sounds, until....... the last sentence "She tucked him up in bed." Unfortunately the "t" got misread as an "f" in tucked and it started again as if someone had flicked a switch. OMG how do you keep a straight face. I tried distracting her by suggesting we read the story again to make sure she remembered the sounds, well, I'll leave the re read to your imaginations!!!!!!!!!

Wonderful simply wonderful.. Cheered up my evening.. installing windows 7 is not that challenging just dead boring (when you have done it as many times as I have.. ) My Brother was at a Posh dinner party in Cambridge when the hosts 4 year old daughter appeared at the dining room door. She looked a picture of angelic childhood. When everyone had seen her the conversation petered out as everyone looked at her. "Daddy?" "Why dose my finger smell when I put it up my bottom?"
