Have a load of intolerances(all processed oils, soya, potatoes, sugar, processed salt, wheat, milk) sometimes I feel sick of all this. As many have discussed here, I can't handle basmati rice. I can only handle abt 1/4th cup of rice(am South Indian-fat grain rice). I wonder what's wrong with me? Above all this I have a very weak stomach... Am not sure what to do about this(even doctors say everything is in my mind) Am frustrated when I have to see others eating & I can't eat anything on the menu....

We've recently discovered that some forms of white rice have a small amount of fructose. I typically eat Minute White Rice (Instant) which has no fructose. It's not the yummiest rice, but it is the safest thing for me to eat when I'm feeling the effects of fructose.
Can you eat protein? Beef, chicken breast, turkey, salmon, etc?

Wondering if anyone has had any reactions simalarly to mine. I cant tolerate any type of rice, every rice makes me very very ill and the reactions are getting worse every time i get rice into my system, i dont purposly eat rice but with my mom being gluten intolerant she sometimes forgets that i cant have rice and uses rice pasta by mistake. Last time i accidentally ate rice it got so bad i thought i was going to have my mom take me to the ER, i had a spilting migraine and was vomiting for the rest of the night and was out of school for 2 days after i had the rice pasta. Im afraid what the reaction could be if i accidentally eat rice again.

Your reaction does not sound anything like HFI, but there are other metabolic conditions that it might be. I would recommend talking to your doctor.

FYI..... rice contains its own type of gluten as does corn hence those of us who are celiac or non celiac gluten intolerant and are of the super sensitive type will have reactions to the rice and corn ... it has nothing to do with the type of rice it’s the gluten in the rice or corn ...

In the USA rice is "fortified" that means it has vitamins and minerals added. These are stuck to the rice with sugar! So if your rice is fortified then please soak it for a long time before cooking and change the water too rinsing the uncooked rice in running water too to remove as much as you can is a good idea too. So if you are HFI and rice makes you feel ill and live in the USA.. there might be a good reason. easy cook rice is a bad idea too because its already part cooked.

Hi ukbill, do you have a reference for this information about fortified rice using sugar? And is it all types of rice in the US?

I believe if the rice has added vitamins then it is fortified and traditionally that is stuck to the rice with sucrose. In the UK all our flour is "fortified" with soya protein and vitamins (its historical when people had little money and might live on bread in America the same was true of rice hence rice being fortified) I think some Basmati is OK? But not certain, Basmati (100% pure ) rice is wonderfully flavoured and by far the best rice in my opinion. I suspect the original poster of this thread has something like CSID rather than HFI.

I am on Persian ancestry, and I can attest that real basmati rice is the best rice in the world, especially the way we make it with a crispy, buttery layer on the bottom. I get my basmati from Costco. It is from he Himalayas and completely pure.

I use white rice as my staple grain as I have celiac and can't eat wheat. I have found that I must wash rice very thoroughly or else I feel sick after eating it. After some research I discovered that most rice is enriched and corn and wheat can be used to "powder" vitamins onto the rice. Since I'm allergic to both corn and wheat this makes sense to me. So I wash my rice 10 times--basically enough to make the water run absolutely clear. Hope this helps.
