I am still learning ... What does everyone do regarding cooking with beer, wine, etc?
Any I'm curious - for the adults - do you consume alcoholic beverages?

I don't use any wine etc in my cooking either. I do drink alkohol. Not as much since I became a mother as before, but I do drink beer (preferably ale) when the occasion arise, or a glass or two of wine (though unless it's a brand I've tried before and know is ok for me I usually only sip a little). I love whisky, and have a glass or two on very special occations, but that's not really something anyone should drink a lot of anyway. My dietitian said (when I was younger and became curious about alcohol) that the only thing I had to be really careful about was wine, since there is a different amount of sugar left in different kinds of wines, and it can be difficult to taste it. As for whisky, vodka, tequila, gin and other "plain" alcoholic beverages, she said I could try what I liked in small amounts. The sweet beverages, like sherry, rum, port, etc is obviously not allowed in any quantity at all. Remember also that everyone has different limits on what they can ingest, and some people here are more sensitive than me.

I also do not cook with wine. My mom makes several dishes with wine, and generally they taste too sweet for me.
I drink beer and stick with the lighter ones. I don't buy the "fancy" brews, since they tend to have odd ingredients like honey, etc. On the rare occasion I will have a glass of red wine, but it needs to be a super dry Merlot or Cabernet. Never a white wine.
I don't care at all for any hard liquors. Not sure if it's a sweet thing or just a general dislike.

I tend to no drink much outside of a few select beers. I posted a similar topic in the adults forum a while back to see what beverages were safe. A lot of alcoholic beverages use a form of sugar, so you have to stick to a strict list (like anything else HFI). I keep a list of safe beer in my purse so I'll be able to access it when I'm out with friends. I don't go out too much or drink too much so it's rather pointless to memorize it.
