I bought some fresh chicken in the deli of a local grocery store last week. As I opened the package I glanced down to see an ingredients list. Seems like the ingredients should have just said chicken??? No, apparently not. The solution they used to plump the chicken contained cane juice!
I had never really thought that I would have to worry about fresh poultry, but I will be sure to check more closely in the future.

Also watch Turkey. Especially the "self-basting" ones. They sometimes contain sugar.

Uuuughhh... I've been paying attention to the chickens that were herbed, but not the plain chicken. Was this a full chicken or sliced chicken?

I found a turkey without additives which means NO SUGAR!!!!!!!!!!It was a gourmet Capon Brand. I looked for several weeks at all the fresh and frozen in our local markets. This was the only turkey or turkey breast I came across without the beloved "added solution" The down side was it weighed about 8lbs and cost about 32.00. Does anyone know of a cheaper brand I can check the ingredients list. I would love to find something a lot less expensive.
