???This was my first dextrose purchase and my first attempt at using the new bread machine. I went to a local wine and beer making shop to buy Dextrose. The sales clerk went in the store room and brought out two brown paper sandwich bags he had filled from a bulk container,I assume. No labeling what so ever, which I didn't even think about wasn't good. Can this stuff get old and break down? If you saw the place you would know why I asked. My son has started having bathroom issues since I began baking the bread for him. Could it be the dextrose wasn't pure? I'm new to this all but he seemed to be doing better till I started baking. It maybe something else but it is the one item he is eating daily, and the one item I can't check. Toss this stuff and order from where? Have any of you bought dextrose that turned out not to be pure? Bev

Though I've never bought it myself, I seem to remember someone saying you can buy packaged Dextrose from Amazon.com. They sure do sell everything!!
Maybe you could ask the beer making shop if you could read the label on their bulk container.
Good luck!

Yup, I bought mine through Amazon.com. Just do a search for Dextrose. I think mine came in a yellow/blue/orange packaging. I did try buying dextrose from an Amish goods store and they tried to push Fructose on me, saying it was the same thing. If he's only has HFI/DFI, you might just try buying french or sourdough bread. Just read the label first. I usually buy my bread from the store.

I totally saw that. I wondered how we might be able to use it and if we'd have some type of weird reaction.

One week without eating my bread with the unidenified dextrose and guess what? He is back on track, feeling much better. I have ordered pure dextrose from Amazon. Never again will I buy something that isn't labeled, purity specified, and sealed. So much for finding a local source but much easier than dealing with a sick child.
