I started feeling that icky sensation right before a cold last night. I was going to get some zicam (those stupid rhino commercials I keep seeing on TV), but they only had the oral variety at CVS. I spent a good 15 minutes looking for something that didn't have sorbitol, sucrose, or sucralose in it. I ended up with Healthy Relief Cold Reduce. It says it's clinically proven to reduce the duration of the common cold. I don't know if that clinical statement is true, but they didn't have sugar in them. The only thing that seemed iffy was "Natural Orange Flavor." So far, so good. It's been an hour since my first one and I don't feel remotely ill in my stomach. (I'm ill everywhere else, just not my stomach.) www.healthyrelief.com/?products-coldreduce They also have a Flu Reduce. They're not cheap, though. In the US at CVS, they cost $10 a box. I don't know if it's actually going to work, but at least it's safe.

Also wanted to add, DayQuil, of all varieties (generic as well) seems to be a no-no. I picked up gel capsules, and they have two kinds of bad sugar in them. I don't understand the point. It's not like you can taste the pills.

zicam makes a nasal swab that is safe and also plain zinc supplements work as well
