New member, waiting on my HFI genetics results which should be back in a week or two.
My question that I couldn't find any other threads about under searching is about chronic never ending crushing fatigue along with crazy high triglycerides and a1c. By crushing fatigue I mean I get maybe an hour or two of energy one day, use up that energy and spend the next 2 or 3 days completely wiped out and feeling like I haven't eaten or slept in weeks. After a few days of complete rest, I'll get another couple hours of energy to use up, and then it's back to 2 or 3 days of laying in bed. No amount of coffee or vitamins seem to help on my bad days but on the days I get a few good hours, coffee does perk me up a bit compared to not having a cup or two.
I've read that fructose basically builds up, can't be broken down and stops your body from using glucose for energy. I Was wondering if anyone else had gotten so bad that they dealt with the crushing fatigue and high triglycerides issues I have been for the last 2 years? Did you just have to wait it out after going fructose free? Did your doctor run any tests that helped figure out the fatigue issue? How long before you started to see your triglycerides come down? How long for the fatigue to go away? Thanks!!

OK 1st are you taking Glucose? (its generally bad and contaminated with Fructose) 2nd are you eating vegetables? 3rd do not worry about triglycerides. that is likely an issue with your liver complaining a lot.
It takes about 6 months to really start to feel the benefit of a clean diet if your liver is in a bad way.
You have to know that ALL fructose and Sorbitol and Sucrose is toxic to us.
The maximum daily amount of Fructose for an HFI person to take is 4g.. if you have a good liver!

I don't know about others on the forum, but I developed an overgrowth of candida (yeast) in my digestive track. When you have candida overgrowth, you can wind up feeling tired all the time. You can Google candida overgrowth and see if you have any of the symptoms. After talking to my doctor about it, I realized that my digestive system and body were too acidic, and candida loves an acidic environment. My doctor had offered to give me fluconazole tablets, but those can be hard on the liver, so instead, I started taking Pepcid every day to lower my stomach acid. I also took oregano oil mixed with olive oil, only 2 drops a day for a few days. Nexium and those types of acid reducing drugs are not good because they contain some forms of sugar. I also avoid dairy, even yogurt makes it worse for me. I take the Pepcid every day and I am on a very strict diet, but finally am getting the yeast under control. And I now have a ton of energy at 74, much more than I have ever had.

Correction: The oral medicine to eliminate yeast is diflucan, not fluconazole. Sorry for the mistake.

Nancy. What you are describing is classic of too much digestible fibre in your diet. This is broken down in the small intestine and turned into Sucrose. some of which is transported through the gut wall into the blood and some is digested by yeasts and bacteria causing an IBS type effect.

Thanks, Bill. I am fine now. I was eating gluten free pasta made with corn flour and rice flour. Said it had zero grams of sugar, but I think it was the corn flour. I have noticed that corn products bother me, unless it's cornstarch.

On your next labs, request a carnitine profile. You could have more than one thing going on. My son's energy only stabilized after 1. removing fructose, 2. supplementing with L-carnitine 3. eliminating wheat (many people, including myself, my HFI son and my daughter are wheat/gluten intolerant).
I suggest you take safe Vitamin C and a high quality probiotic as well.

I have noticed that corn products bother me, unless it's cornstarch. Unlikely to be cornflour if it is pure. However I also have had "issues" with fake pasta type products not agreeing with me at all. I suspect there is a lot of extra "natural flavourings" added that are our problem. I have also had problems with Cuss Cuss (precooked semolina) sorry think spelling is wrong there. Recently I discovered that the "precooking" is done in a "vegetable broth" ... So I suspect that "broth" is very sweet. Something to be aware of. Professor Lustig has an interesting new video out (with a Californian university) and has updated his "sugar the bitter truth" video out too. There is also the video by DR Sten Ekburg called "#1 Absolute Best FATTY LIVER DETOX" which is describing the HFI diet mostly as a perfect way to heal a liver with NASH. This is also worth a look. I am not certain if he is a Quack or not yet.. he seems to make a new video a week. So he is clearly not doing his own research. So maybe he is genuine but his videos are based on others research not his. Which is risky to my way of thinking. Anyway it hit all the points I usually make but then I am very biased So would approve of something that confirms my own research and opinions wouldn't I? lol Keep smiling

' Broths' are also often used with canned fish.
