Sorry not able to help much here, Manitol HFI safe?? not certain on that one. I have some 100 % pure Chocolate given to me by a lovely mother of an HFI child.. and to be honest I was very excited when I got it.. but I have eaten about 2 grams of it in 11 months! I think it was the desire of the unobtainable sort of thing.. I have not eaten enough to say whether it is actually HFI safe or not.. its just not a taste I want to eat much of.. So I can honestly say I've not missed a thing all my life by not eating Chocolate.. but then I'm not female....

According to the Nutrition Data Website, there are 2gm of sucrose in 100 grams (1 Cup) of Cocoa-Unsweetened Dry Powder and the safety of "Choffy" would depend on the HFI'ers tolerance.

Hello to all!! I hope you all have a great 2014!!! I have been wondering about unsweetened cocoa for some time now. They tell me cocoa in itself is good for the health, so I dont know if is worth it to give a carlitos a tea spoon of hersheys unsweetened cocoa in his milk a couple times a week... What do you guys think?? We went to aspen , colorado for the holidays, I knew we were going to eat out a lot so that was really stressing me out, but thank God we did pretty well, every meal seemed to go well with him... however like a crazy mom I am ( jjaja) every tantrum and every behavior I think it has to do with HFI and not being a two year old boy....( is something I have to work on) His diet is still no sugar ( even those consider tolerated) and we are doing pretty well on it, BUT I know that as he gets older he would be more aware of the things around him and maybe it would be harder to keep him away!! so keep this pro board going strong because we need all the experts here take care all of you and hope you are all doing very well Claudia

No problem he will of course try everything and will make himself ill every time. This is a life lesson he will learn. but you will have to deal with the occasional bad days as a result.
You cannot wrap him in cotton wool and protect him from these but so long as he has not become habituated to sweet flavours he will reject the sweet foods long before he has enough to make him ill let along put him in the Emergency department of your local hospital as recently happened to one little lad who has been fed smarties because someone on this forum told him mum they were "safe" No they are NOT safe. even before his emergency admission he was already suffering liver damage as a result of the amount he was eating and the fact hat all commercially available Glucose is contaminated with Fructose and possibly sucrose as well.
