Has anyone noticed that "kcchater" has not been active once since this started? I have....
Kcchater, If you are still out there (and just silently lurking), I am happy to share some of our validated, documented info. provided by our varying, well educated specialists at our world renowned Children's hospital.
They know stuff. They are cautious. They are not reckless with peddling info or vitamins. And they are the first to insist on a FULL blood test (including everything plus C, D, and I think B12) to evaluate the current state of what is needed or not.
A body in balance stays in balance.... but a child's body still needs to be monitored.
Private message me, anytime. I'm not interested in all the "noise" on this thread.
.... Can't believe this started out as a simple question from a person asking for help. Time to re-evaluate priorities, people.

In an attempt to diffuse this situation on vitamins, I'm going to propose a compromise. I would suggest all parents of children who have HFI and individuals who are concerned about their potential lack of vitamins to sign up for Cron-O-Meter. This was recommended by another member on this forum and I signed up out of curiosity. I do take a multivitamin, but I take it because I'm a lady and I tend to lack iron due to lady-happenings and I'm pretty damned sure I'm not getting any vitamin C and I don't want to get scurvy. Anyway, here's the link cronometer.com/ The basic membership is free and it'll give you an EXCELLENT idea on what vitamins you are short on. I even would recommend this for people who do not have HFI. For an example, here is my vitamin reading for yesterday: Yesterday I had coffee with milk, two cups of tea, shredded wheat (with milk), pretzels, yogurt, tortilla chips, and rice with butter. That's about a typical day's meal for me (maybe a bit heavy on the snacks). Sometimes I make a proper meal for dinner, but I'm usually too lazy at the end of the day and have too much work to do to spend an hour cooking dinner. Anyway, as you can see, I'm short on Vitamin C, E, K, and Potassium and I'm getting way, way, way too much Sodium. My other levels are fairly decent, but I'm a little low on B5. I do still take a multivitamin. I'm not sure it helps, but at least it's one less thing to worry about. It's hard enough to eat within the HFI diet and then have to worry about making sure the foods you're eating contain all the vitamins you need. If you want to be slightly less stressed about your dietary needs, I'd recommend a multivitamin, though I'm sure you could do as Bill does and finely hone your diet to get all the vitamins you need. Then again, if you're dealing with a kid that's already a picky eater, trying to get that kid to eat liver or spinach is probably more stress than you want to deal with.

Just saw this question and...just skimming through and skipping down to a vitamin suggestion. Our daughter does not have HFI but she is on very low fructose diet; the dietician that works w/ the genetics dept at our Children's Hospital suggestion Kirkman Labs as a source. We get her the Children's Multi-Vitamin/Mineral Capsules and just empty one (bottle suggests 2 daily, but her pediatrician felt that 1 was sufficient) capsule into the mouthwatering corn starch shake she drinks every night before bed. This may be helpful, if you're still looking. kirkmanlabs.com/SiteSearchResult.aspx?strSiteSearch=children's%20multi-vitamin

Pretty sure sosokoko is a spammer/bot. Clearly they wouldn't be posting such advice if they knew anything about fructose intolerance.

I give my son- two years old- the vitamin NANO VM. It's a powdered vitamin for children with significant diet restrictions. It can be ordered at solace.com there is one for younger children and one for older children. We give this per order of our doctors at Boston Children's Hospital.my son is diagnosed with HFI.

Hello everybody. My son is 3 and half years old and he is diagnosed with HFI. I have read the posts in this topic and ordered Children's Vitamins And Minerals from G&G Vitamins as someone suggested. Since he is too little to swallow the capsules I have opened one and mixed it with water and the water turned yellow. I have contacted the manufacturer about this and they said that this is happening because of vitamin B. My question is: Has someone already gave this product to their child, and could it really be that water turns yellow because of vitamin B?

Very probably, it can turn the pee yellow too, it is one of the water soluble vitamins so excess just gets passed out in the urine. But from my impression they have researched their products really well. Meg uses this one and has been fine on it.

I'll second that, B vits are yellow. (if you dissolve some vegemite in water, that goes yellow as well. (very dark yellow). it's the riboflavin I think

We used the G&G ones too for a while and they turned my daughter's porridge yellow. A word of warning about them though - our dietician calculated that the amount of Vit D in them is tiny compared to what a 2 year old child needs so try and get some extra Vit D elsewhere. My daughter has instant porridge oats with oat milk (she is dairy intolerant too) for breakfast everyday as both are enriched with Vit D and Calcium.

Thank you very much charlie, nicoleh and kate for answers. I will start giving him these vitamins and I hope that they will improve his immune system a little bit.

I am new to this post from Nepal. My Daughter is 5 years old and is diagnosed HFI. After doing lot of research I have found there is mild and severe level of HFI. My daughter has extra energy despite not having any Sugar. She is the smartest in her School. She is only having 1 multivitamin. After doing lot of research I found that Dr. Tolan from Boston University Medical Dept has been on research for 23 years and saw somewhere that he announced he has a cure for HFI in 2-3 years, and till then just hold on to your diet (has anyone here come across this?). I have also come across articles that some vitamins and supplement can trigger a mutant gene and activate it, even in the case of HFI, so why not take the chance to see. But someone elderly in this posts mentioned HFI s not needing lot of vitamins and I am with her.

My vitamin + mineral levels were very low in 1973 at age 30 when I was told that I probably had HFI. The researchers who discovered it recommended therapeutic levels of vitamins/minerals along with a dramatic diet adjustment. They followed me for over 15 years, adjusting my vitamin/mineral levels, which I have continued even to this day. I truly believe it is one of the reasons that I am as healthy as I am now at 73. (Better than ever!!!!) They put me on: Bronson Therapeutic Formula 1xday, Super B [which they had me break in half and take: ½ AM + ½ PM], Vit-C 1000mg 2xday, Calcium* 1000mg + Magnesium* 750mg [break in half and take: ½ AM + ½ PM]. Later they added Vit D3* 1000 iu 1xday. (*All added because I must be 100% dairy free). Since then, we have added: Fish oil 1000mg 1xday, Bronson’s Probiotics “9” 2xday; plus I occasionally take Kirkman’s enzymes - Carb Digest with Isogest. In fact, I’ve had vitamins all my life. As a baby and young child, I may not have lived if not for that –I was so sickly! My Mom couldn’t breast feed me, I couldn’t take regular formula…so it was a pretty rocky beginning. I was always underweight and sick. Fast forward to 1970, arriving home from the Philippine Islands 3 months pregnant off deployment with my military husband…I weighed only 98-lbs at 5 ft 3” with my 1st baby. But, finally the doctors began to listen to me when I told them I was having dietary problems. However, it took 2 years before anyone really figured it out. The point I want to underline here IS: The vitamins and minerals have made a HUGE difference for me.

Hi Saj, It was probably my tumblr blog that you saw the confirmation that Dr. Tolan is working on a cure/treatment. I think the only cure would be replacing an HFIer's liver, but the treatment sounds like it would make for an easier time dining out, going on vacation, parties, and general get-togethers. Right now we're a bit shackled by our diets (having to pack a lot of food on trips and cook while on vacation) and this treatment would loosen those shackles significantly. But yes, in the meantime, we have to stick to our diets and daydream of the things we'll be able to eat in 2-3 years. And yes, I agree that most HFIers need some type of vitamin supplement. As it is now we get very little vitamin C and we could all end up with scurvy if we don't supplement that vitamin loss somehow.

My metabolic geneticist told me we would have to cut an adult vitamin in half for our little one once we want him to start taking a multi-vitamin. Now, how in the world you get a small child to swallow a half of an adult vitamin is beyond me! I am not weighing in on if the vitamins are needed or not. I truthfully don't know, but I will do my best to find out for sure when that time comes.

Kirkman children’s multi vitamins in capsules. We get it on amazon. You can open and sprinkle capsule until your child is old enough to swallow capsules. Double check formulas always as manufacturers change things from time to time. 😊
