OK where to start.. First let me shoot some holy cows.. 1/. Your HFI (or potential HFI ) child will not suffer from a predominantly meat, fat and carbs only diet! (how many green veggies are in mothers milk??) 2/. An HFI child or baby will get all the nutrients it needs from meat and carbs with perhaps a little added vitamin C. 3/. a small amount of Spinach , Lettuce or Watercress once a week should be sufficient. 4/. FAT is good! (OK we are not talking about too much body fat but butter, animal fats and the like) 5/. Feed your baby meat, more meat, eggs, rice, pasta and did I say meat? How to cook food for an HFI baby. Well the standard thing is to cook the food normally and blend it in to a smooth paste (for young babies) and slowly let it get lumpier as the baby grows and is able to swallow and chew (gum) the lumps. I would let the paste down to thin it so to speak with either thickened stock from the meat or with a white sauce perhaps with cheese added to give it more flavour. Food dose not have to have a name to describe it.. like some fancy French gastronomic restaurant. It simply has to be tasty, nutritious, and edible. I have run out of available time just now I will add more and some recipes for baby food and treats asap. Main important thing is DON'T PANIC!

1. DON'T PANIC is written on the cover of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy Guidebook.
2. Towels are touted to be the MOST important and MOST useful item. Everyone is supposed to carry one with them at every time.
3. Bill then followed up with a quote by Marvin, the self-depreciating robot. Although, I would say Bill is more 1/2 Marvin and 1/2 Zaphod Beeblebrox type of character.
4. We both quietly acknowledge that we're huge nerds.

That is as good a description of me as I think anyone has made.. Just how much of me is paranoid android with a brain the size of a planet and how much is a two headed self centred president of the universe I really could not say! Tony Blair our ex prime minister who is now a "peace envoy", which a joke in such poor taste that no comedian would have been that insane to suggest, it not even Douglas Addams the writer of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, anyway Tony Blair always reminded me of Zaphod.. for some reason? I think it was the insane smile of Tony Blair that did it, and the sense that he believed every word he ever said was the absolute truth just because he had said it! Rather than Zaphod I would prefer to be more like Ford Prefect.. although his research skills were poor (hence his choice of name before he arrived on Earth..) Enough nerdy speak.. I will have to dig the film out and watch it again.. Ahh happy days

The books are actually really, really good. Fun, English humor about science fictiony topics. I probably would not have remembered the lines had I only watched the movie. And I lost it long ago, I'm just better at hiding it.

I went as Arthur Dent for Halloween last year. Babel fish was a pain to keep in my ear.

Did you use a Swedish Fish? I always thought Swedish fish would make fantastic Babel fish.

Babel fish aside, and back to HFI baby food, beware if adding stock or sauces that there is no added salt. And of course fish is good! What's the latest on eggs these days? When I was health visiting it was to introduce hard boiled & mashed from 6 months. Mind you, weaning was from 6 months anyway. The first fructose I ever gave my babies was as diluted apple juice. I knew little of the biochemistry of HFI then, but knew that if they were sick they'd inherited from me!

OK. Rewind! I've just read the thing about eggs & HFI. I've always been OK with them, even having 9 a day on one strange diet fad! No ill effects. Maybe not good for HFI babies. Sorry!

Colormist - Oddly candy was not my go to choice I don't like getting sticky fingers or accidentally tasting sweetness when I bite my nails. I used a novelty eraser. As for eggs, I have eaten many in a day, I use to eat 6 in one sitting. That being said, I was not aware of HFI at the time and cannot comment if there was some subtle reaction. What I do know is that I did not have stomach cramps or a severe hypoglycemic reaction.

I think eggs have to be part of a diet for HFI children. They are so versatile and neutral tasting, quick and easy to make. Scrambled eggs has to be an easy one.. boiled egg and toasted fingers of bread and butter is another a meal ready in 5 min max. just the thing for a busy mum or dad. I do not understand the reference to avoid salt.. so long as the child is getting enough milk and liquid (peppermint tea is great stuff) a little salt will only make the food taste better. Perhaps for babies it needs to be limited but we all need salt and it is deamonised incorrectly by some of the medical press, yes it causes high blood pressure in older people.. we are dealing with young children and babies here. My comments about the side effects of eating too many eggs might be as a result of long abuse of my gut and it now is objecting to certain foods like cucumber and cheese late at night.. both of which did not cause me any problems as a child. Because the HFI diet is virtually fiber free (or should be) problems with constipation will be an issue. I believe a discussion with your doctor about a none digestible fiber is the answer.. all the normal "cures" such as Lactusol are out! The old favorite of COD Liver oil will work and be very good for the baby too.. although feeding it too them might these days be considered some form of child abuse.. It don't taste good at all! Yes I remember it.. YUK! They used to say if it did not taste bad it would not be good for you.. well that's possibly very true. Everything that is nice is usually fattening or bad for us in some other way.. (back to salt again!) Please do not give any HFI child or any child at all "LOW SALT" this is a potassium salt and can have dire effects on heart rhythm!
