I have a 14 month old son with HFI. We have been struggling to find foods that are safe and toddler friendly. He ate a monteray jack cheese stick today (not the entire thing) and was screaming and crying for hours this afternoon. Any input on cheese products? Sound like and HFI reaction?

Hi welcome to the board, Wow, that is early for a diagnosis, let us know more on your history some time.
Unfortunately alot of the foods really need to be cooked from scratch to be really safe, especially for a toddler who will probably be even more reactive. Let us know where abouts you are from as some in your area maybe able to help with products.
Meg doesn't particularly like cheese, not sure why as it should be ok for fructose but I have noticed if I give her any type of processed cheese she seems to react, we have various cheese sticks and some do have colouring added but they may also have been subject to contamination if other products are made around them.
My motto is, the shorter the ingredient list the safer the food. I tend to stick to plain mild cheddar if I do use cheese for her.

I have had some reactions to cheese too! Usually when I get "cheap" cheese from the supermarket.
I think it might have something to do with the fermentation process. I also have reactions to plain yogurt, sour cream, and kefir. The fermentation process creates free fructose, so depending on where the product is in the process, there can be possible free fructose still. I posted some articles on this, if you do a search on "fermentation" you will find them. It depends on sensitivity too. I am VERY sensitive (although not officially diagnosed). I can only tolerate about 200mg fructose per day and 300mg sucrose.
