Hello Everyone!
I was wondering if anyone knew which if any beans are okay.
Kidney beans, chick peas, lima beans??? Any others??
I was just curious if anyone had any information.
PS: Special thanks to Colormist for your Disney World information. We are taking our kids there in a few weeks, and your information was very helpful!!!

Hi Kelly, Regina can eat green, or snap beans, and wax beans (yellow snap beans). They were the only ones that were on her "allowed" list. All the rest were listed as "no" so we never tried any others. But I also will be interested to see what the others can eat. Tammy

Hi Tammy, Hi Kelly
Green and yellow snap beans are the only ones I can eat and they are also on the "limited" list. I only eat the ones from a can or if they are cooked like I've had them in Tennessee. That is cooked in the oven with chopped country ham (salt cured) and a little liquid from a jar of pickled peppers. I find fresh or frozen ones are too sweet for me. It seems though, nobody else thinks they're sweet. (LOL)

I eat black beans, kidney beans, pinto beans, lima beans, and navy beans.
I haven't had lima or navy since I was officially confirmed as HFI, so I might be more sensitive to them now.
And no problem, Kelly! I'm always glad to be someone else's guinea pig.
EDIT: wanted to say that I only eat beans from a can--so I don't know how frozen/dried/fresh ones fair.

Why are beans from a can less sweet? I haven't tried any type of bean (Green, yellow, navy, etc.) yet since my nutritionist wasn't sure if they were safe or not. Is it due to the way they are processed? Thanks for any input on this. I am very curious. There is so much to learn.

Thanks to all of you for your information.
I heard and give my children green beans and wax beans, and I'll stick with just that!
Fred, thanks for the recipe! It sounds delicious!!! I'll have to give that a try.
PS: Later on today I will post a chocolate cake recipe and a frosting recipe. I finally found a great birthday cake combination that my kids really enjoy.
Both are delicious and very easy to make!!

I'm confused about the beans. (Keep in mind I'm not officially diagnosed, but my food trends generally are the same as others here.) I primarily eat black, pinto, lima, and green beans, and I haven't had a problem with them. I always eat them from a can, except in the case of lima beans where I eat them from a frozen bag but cooked loooong past the estimated time.
I also find fresh cooked green beans too sweet. I don't know why that is - but I only eat green beans if they're from a can.

I'd have to agree with Julie, either I'm not that sensitive (which I find hard to believe) or there's some type of good-sugar/starch balance in the beans that knocks out the bad stuff.

I cooked up some frozen Lima Beans the other night. I accidentally forgot to turn the oven on (for the french fries) so I ended up just leaving the limas on the stove to cook longer than recommended. I was a little wary when it came for chow-time because the limas smelled sweet. So I skipped dinner and just had a bowl of rice instead.
The next day, my husband decided to be nice and make me dinner. He heated up the leftover limas, so I tried them. Good news is that I didn't even get remotely sick. And I'm not feeling the sugar-hangover that I usually get (which may be because I had three cups of coffee, but that's beside the point) from eating something I shouldn't be.
This is good news for me, because I love a variety of beans and now I'm feeling a bit emboldened to try a few other kinds. I don't know if you have a kid if you should try any beans aside from green beans. But for us older HFIers, I'd recommend trying them out if you're interested (obviously NOT baked beans) and see if we can get a consensus.

This made me laugh. My FIL made some baked beans the last time we were down. He told me he rinsed them in the sink to get the sugar off of them so I could eat them. Didn't work too well. Bless his heart, he was trying.

That's so sweet. I always have a hard time NOT trying food like that when people put such an effort into it.

I was so encouraged by the fact that there were beans you seem to tolerate that I got a can of pinto beans and tried them with Nate. Bummer - he spit them out and wouldn't come close to the plate again until I got rid of them. Guess I'll try again some other time.
